Happy Birthday Fargo

Fargo making a birthday wish

It's leap year and Fargo finally gets to celebrate a birthday. What better place than Bali where frog gifts are everywhere. John and I lamented over the giant tree-size carving of a frog under a lily-pad umbrella (too big for the backpack), the nine inch mirror gleaming from the open mouth of a wooden frog (too breakable) or the perfect-postured frog that fishes off the edge of a bookshelf (too stiff, it might remind Fargo of his lost Hawaiian love). The Balinese special feast of sate frog wasn't appropriate so a birthday dinner was out of the question and the Batuan village Frog Dance wasn't playing tonight. What then to get a birthday frog?

It was Fargo who actually came up with the idea. After watching the other tourists walking around in their cool, flowing batik clothes, he wanted to be more "hip" as he put it. So we took him to see Rai. She had previously sewn us a double-size batik bed sheet and we thought perhaps she could do something for the birthday boy. As soon as she stopped laughing (Fargo was quite embarrassed) she managed to blurt out the words "Yes, I can make him a shirt." Well, Fargo is getting a batik shirt, form fitted to a frog. He is elated.

Custom made clothes for a frog! I was so green with envy that I'm having Rai make mea dress (no it isn't green.)
