Pen Pal Letter

Solo - March 24th 1996

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Allen Herman at home

Hello, How do you do?

It's very nice to know you. I think you will be surprised to accept my letter. You may feel that you never have a friend with my identity. It would be better if I introduce myself first.

My name is Suryani. I am 16 years old, and will be 17 on June, 19, 1996. My hometown is Solo, Indonesia.

Here's my picture when I'm in Kuta Beach, Bali. I always smile, cause I'm a cheer and happy girl. And my smile in this picture is for you and your family.

I've known you from your daughter and your son in law, Janet and John Anderson. As you know, I am their friend. I met them on the ferry ship from Bali to Java on March, 4th, 1996, when I and my friends back home after had a tour in Bali for about 3 days. I talked with Janet and John more than 30 minutes, especially Janet. She was so friendly and sympathic. John was too, but I though he was little quite.

I was talking with Janet about many things. About my family, my schools, my hometown and also about me. She also told me about her family, about her Dad, about her Mum, her very old granparent and about the life in America. That's all made me interesting and curious to know more.

Now I'll tell you about my life. I'm a Javanese girl. Both of my parents come from Javanese family. My father is 54 years old, he worked as an official at a government school. My mother is 46 yhears, she's only a housewife. I have 3 brothers and a sister. I am the fourth child in my family. We are moeslems (you know, Islamic persons). I am a student of second year of Senior High School. Greeting from all my friends in school to you and all relatives you have in America.

I think it's not good and polite, if I write more, because I've written too much. I'm affraid you'll feel boring and have notime for reading. I apologize if there are many mistakes in my words and grammars. I hope you'll understand about it, because I'm in the learning phase right now, especially in English language. I use this letter as a mean of studying English and increase my knowledge about other Country.

I wish the best and happiness for you and all of your family in America.

With Love and Peace -- Suryani

Here is a message for John and Janet:

Hello John, Janet,

Thanks for the letter you've sent to me, and I'm still waiting for the next letters. I hope you would like to tell me about your time in Solo. And also tell me about your trips to others countries. I would be very happy to read your stories. About the book you said in your letter, I'd like it very much. Thanks for your attention to me. And I hope you both will be "THE HAPPIEST COUPLE IN THE WORLD". -- Suryani
