Now that sound has been conquered I think taste should be the next medium introduced to the World-Wide-Web. I could put sweet Turkish figs and the plumpest peaches beside spinach filled breads and home-made ice cream. The web could go one step beyond T.V.; you'd never have to get up for a snack.
We've just split a peach and a fig to celebrate our second wedding anniversary. Both one and two now have been celebrated on the road. There wasn't any fancy dinner, simply a baked cheese bread bought at a street vendor. We didn't don fancy clothes; we haven't got any. No candies, no flowers. But with the thrill of being in Istanbul, we didn't need any of those.
Throughout the world we have been sampling local cuisine. Can you call street food 'cuisine'? Turkey stands alone. The food here is superb. Yogurt and cucumber salads spiced with mint are mouth watering. Stuffed peppers, spinach, tomato and feta sandwiches, spicy chick-pea stews are wonderful. I'd go on but I'm getting hungry just mentioning all of this. I've added a whole new array of dishes to our one and two pot meals. With our new collection of Turkish spices and fresh vegetables everywhere, I'm raring to go. But first an old favorite. We're camped under an apple tree. Hot spiced apple sauce will be perfect with good old American pancakes.
