Tina and Anke

We met Tina and Anke today. They are from Homburg and Riegelsberg, Germany, and like us, are traveling around the world. To travel has been a lifetime dream for both of them and two days after Tina finished her thesis, they left for Los Angeles.

We compared notes on places we had been on the island, and on future plans. It was somewhat comforting to learn that their friends and family were as surprised as ours were when they announced that they were traveling around the world. So far their four months of travel has taken them to Canada and, via Greyhound, through quite a bit of the USA. After Hawaii they fly to New Zealand. They arrive an hour after we do. We've given them the address to this web sight. I hope they get a chance to log in.

"See you two on the trail somewhere."

Pele God of Fire

We've come full circle around the island and we are back at the Volcano National Park. A trip down Loap Road brought us to this crater where locals stop to offer gifts to Pele, the God of Fire. We only spent a few minutes here. The sulphur smell was overwhelming.
