Awakenings

The forest came to life at 12:30am last night with wildlife. Unfortunately this wildlife took the form o two-legged primates. For three hours we endured laughing, drinking and loud, rude noise.

In a way, we had been forewarned. The National Park attendant did say that is particular forest camp site attracted partiers. But when we had pulled in and seen the other campers, mainly families and older adults, we didn't give it another thought. But sometime in the wee night hours, the animals came to howl.

It wasn't until the sky opened up at 3:30 that the night owls let. Despite the fact that the rain is wearing on our spirits, we were glad it came.

Although I didn't investigate in the morning, I'm sure there was a large heap of empty beer cans tossed by the lake. I doubt these people, who have no respect for others, ave any respect for the land either.

It is interesting that not one person, including ourselves, got up to approach these rude people during the night. It seems that in our American society, many of our actions, or lack of action, is governed by paranoia. People would rather live with the noise of the car alarm going off down the street, or the loud party next door, because we are afraid to make a stand and do something about them. If everyone last night had gotten together to take action, we could have made a difference. But because we see crime on T.V., in the newspapers and at so many movie houses, we have become afraid of even our own neighbors.
