Jungle Bird Homestay is located within the boundaries of the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary on the northern bank of the Periyar River.
The sanctuary is in Kerala state in the South of India.
Arriving by Air:
The closest Airport is Cochin International, approximately one and a half hours by taxi from the Sanctuary.
Arriving by train
The nearest city is Ernakulam where hourly KSRTC buses can be caught at the Ernakulum train station to the town of Kothamangalam.
From Kothamangalam:Kothamangalam is 13 kilometers from the sanctuary. You can take a taxi or bus, disembarking just after the bridge. The entrance to the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary is 100 meters past the bridge on the right.
Upon arrival at the bird sanctuary:
Sudha, Gireesh's mother, may greet you at the telephone stand at the corner entrance to the sanctuary. If Sudha is not there, proceed through the park entrance gate and walk up the road to the homestay. If asked, tell the guard that you are staying at Gireesh's Homestay. You may be asked to pay the small entrance fee.
It is best to call ahead to ensure a vacancy. Sudha speaks limited English, but will be able to tell you if she has a room available. Gireesh Speaks excellent English. To speak with him, call one of his cell phone numbers.
